Coventry Telegraph Wins Blog Prize

A blog penned by a self-styled sci-fi space cadet has won the Blog of the Year title at the Newspaper Society Advertising & Digital Awards.

Coventry Telegraph staffer David Bentley is the man behind The Geek Files , which beat competition from the Scotsman and the Hull Daily Mail to win the coveted award at last week’s ceremony.

It is one of the most popular blogs produced by a Trinity Mirror website and Bentley notes that it has attracted global attention.

He writes: “I knew I’d made it when celebrity super-blogger Perez Hilton linked to this site when I reported on casting for the next Superman movie!”

Bentley also says of the NS prize in a recent blog post: “The award is evidence that as we move further into a multimedia age, the internet is vital and proper investment by the industry in the online world and in sites like this is vital.

“Newspapers and other traditional media must embrace the web and give the time and resources to those who have an insight and instinct for the changing landscape of news and entertainment.”

Also taking home titles from the NS awards were the Nottingham Evening Post, which won Website of the Year, and MK News for Community Website of the Year.

Photographs from the ceremony and a full list of winners are available on the NS website.
