Northcliffe Local Sites Go Green
An online environmental initiative from Northcliffe is being rolled out to its regional news sites.
HoldTheFrontPage.co.uk reports that 13 online newspapers now have their own localised versions of the Big Green Switch website, which encourages visitors to cut energy usage.
The Plymouth Herald and the Exeter Express & Echo are among the first batch of sites to go green and now include links on their homepages to the new websites.
Project manager Steve Allen said the Big Green Switch aims to show people easy ways to reduce their carbon footprint and save money.
The sites also have interactive sections where users can submit their own environmentally friendly ideas, write a blog, or coordinate green groups and events.
Plus visitors can search the database for “environment-related” job vacancies and enter competitions to win green prizes.
Northcliffe ultimately hopes to create tailored versions of the Big Green Switch for all its local news websites.
